Jack smelt off the wharf

Jack smelt happiness
Carla and Jeffrey from Mountain View were very happy with their jack smelt haul today off the Capitola Wharf. They caught them with anchovies and a bobber. Several small halibut were caught off the wharf today as well, and a striper came up after a swim bait. None were landed so far.

Heating up on the wharf

Small halibut
Don caught this nice 22 1/2 inch halibut off the Captiola wharf using frozen anchovies and a bobber. Pelicans have been seen diving by the wharf the last few days - could be either squid or jack smelt.  Weather has been beautiful!

Shallow Water Pays Off…..

Rubin And His Buddy Display A Halibut and Lingcod
5-10-08

The shallow water has been paying off for the anglers that fish hard. Several Grasscod with a few Lingcod and small Halibut have been coming in on the boats that are fishing the edges of the kelp beds. Boaters fishing in the deeper water are still catching nice quality Bolina Rockfish as well.

The wharf fishing is starting to really get good with lots of Perch on the pilings. We have yet to see any bait around the pier but hopfully things will improve with the Stripers and Halibut to follow.

Lingcod Fishing Is Improving

Kurtis With A 12Lb Lingcod
Today was another successful day for the few anglers that went out fishing. Kurtis and Josh went out for 2hrs and caught a half dozen rockfish and Two lingcod to 12lbs. Fishing is still scratchy but if you work for your fish you should be rewarded. White plastics tipped with squid have been the most successful choice of bait.

The wharf fishing remains good with several Walleye perch and Shinner Perch being caught on Sabiki Rigs.

Call and make your reservations if you plan on fishing over the weekend. No reservations are required during the week.
