Capitola: Great time to go kayak fishing

posted at 8:13 PM in Fishing Reports |

There have been white sea bass in and around the kelp beds here for the last few days. Our rental boats can’t go into the kelp but they can fish around them. However, our kayaks (and yours) can - and there’s a pretty good opportunity there for hooking up some nice fish.

Two rental boats picked up three keeper halibut today at the west side of the marina using live anchovies and swim baits. There were a couple shorty halibut caught off the wharf today as well.

We still have quite a lot of bait swimming around the marina - it’s been fantasic the last several days with pelicans diving and the whole deal. The dog shark situation remains about the same - they’re still fairly plentiful. So - if you’re into dog sharks, it’s great fishing - else, it’s an adventure in avoidance.
