Capitola: Great day for fishing and the scenery was nice too

Kayak Fun
So - first - sorry - no more fish pictures - we were busy again.

Lots of rock cod came in off the rentals today, a few nice halibut, and a few white sea bass.

The irony / heartbreaker of the day was Ken, who thought he was doing the right thing by releasing a salmon. Turns out he released a 40 pound white sea bass. DARN! I guess better safe than sorry, but still….. DARN!

There’s still bait in through the marina, not as thick but still a pretty healthy amount. What swell there was has gone down again, so - fishing’s probably going to remain good.

Capitola: Oh yeah…

… Off the wharf today we saw nine short and two keeper halibut come in at the surf line - live anchovies. They seemed to be biting between 8 and 10 a.m just as the tide was going out. Maybe it’ll start biting again this evening.

Capitola: If I had time to take more than one picture…

Larry and seabass and ling
…there’d be more than one picture for today. Sorry folks - we were pretty busy. Anyway:

Here’s Larry showing off his 30 inch white seabass and a ling cod. What he’s not showing is two halibut which he already cleaned by the time we got around to taking this picture. He also had some really nice quality rock cod, including one of the biggest blacks I’ve ever seen. He was mostly fishing off Soquel point. The seabass came in on a swim bait, the halibut and rock cod were all live anchovies.

Several other boats had halibut and one had two limits of nice brown rock cod caught off the mile reef.

Conditions are still nice. There’s a little bit of swell but not enough to chase off the bait or the bite.

Capitola: Still halibut in the surf

Justins son and halibut
Justin’s son caught this 26 incher off the wharf this afternoon using live anchovies in the break. There’s still some halibut and sea bass in the west edge of the marina; Dan spooled one into the kelp bed and farmed it. Double darn.

We still have bait galore in the marina and pelicans continue to put on a show all day long. There are fish all over the place - you just have to put in your time. Looks like it’s going to be pretty nice this weekend, so with a bit of luck we’ll see all kinds of action.
