Capitola: Another good day for variety

Mary Lou and first Halibut
Marilou caught this legal halibut fishing live bait off Soquel point today - it was her first! Congratulations Marilou.

While halibut are biting (sheriff Larry’s brother Jim got one this morning off the mile reef), bite has slowed down a bit due to a small swell that’s moved in. They’re still being caught, but not as frequently or as big. We got word from someone who was over on the Santa Cruz wharf that there’s a pretty decent halibut bite going on on the east side of the wharf - nothing big, but a consistent bite. We also saw a decent number of rock cod come in today off the rentals.

We still have a small area of red tide around the wharf here, but it remains very confined - once you leave the immediate area you’ll find good water quickly. Otherwise, weather for the weekend looks pretty good - some fog in the morning followed by a sunny afternoon. Probably great for kayak fishing!
