Santa Cruz: The Swell from Hell

Quang and ling
We have quite a swell coming in here now - it’s a fairly long period and is only piling up close to the shore, but it’s substantial and has pretty much shut down any bite we may have had. At Capitola we had two rentals out - both got skunked. In Santa Cruz we also had two boats out. They came in with one cabezon and a handful of rockfish. These came in off the main reef, which is where the bite is as far as we can tell (if it can be said that there’s a bite).

Here’s Quang with his 13 pound ling from yesterday. He caught this using frozen squid on a number 4 hook on lighthouse reef.
