Capitola: Patience patience patience

Mike John browns and lingcod
Mike and John fished Soquel point this morning and ended up being our highliner with some browns and a nice 12 pound ling. They were using rock cod jigs with squid bits. Nice catch

Elsewhere today, Josh caught two legal halibuts and lost one fishing off O’Neils in 40 feet of water. Larry caught a legal one this morning in the same area, but he won’t allow photos of him with small fish. He’s down in the surfline on the wharf right now trying for something bigger.

There continues to be a huge amount of bait down past the ship – it started in the four inch range in the morning, but got quite large as the jigging continued. Otherwise, there are little spots of bait all over the place. Ed saw bait balls all day wherein he’d be able to jig up a couple sardines before the school disappeared.

Ed also had a couple of really good takedowns between 9 am and 1 pm, but nothing stuck. Josh got his after that, so Ed’s kind of kicking himself for a lack of patience. He did tie up 25 halibut rigs while he was waiting.
