| It was a slow day for rock cod here, so we didn’t take any pictures save for this one. This is the Aljamal family and some very very happy kids! They got into a bunch of mackerel and jacksmelt and had a blast reeling in a small cooler full of them.
This is in fact representative of what we saw here today - a lot of proud dads with happy kids catching a lot of bait fish. Most boats were families getting out to have fun, so not a lot of serious targeting on the rentals today. However, we did hear from one of the dads that he hooked up on three juvenile white seabass today along the edge of the kelp off of privates. He was flylining live sardines and got three 26 inchers (he released them). So - while it’s always nice to have some decent catches to point to, today more than made up for it in the smiling faces category. We had a ton of fun and the band was pleasant so all in all still a great day. |

| So - sigh - here’s Kurtis once again with his highliner catch for the day. This is a 65 pound (55 dressed) thresher shark - he hooked up on it flylining a live sardine off Soquel point this morning. He’s been going out prepared for these of late with some pretty heavy gear, as we’ve known they’ve been in the area. He’s been using a braided line top shot with a 80 pound monofilament leader. In all he caught two fish today, this one was larger than the other by something close to an order of magnitude. Larry also caught one today, and Dan had three on and lost all three (though he did get a eight pound flattie as a consolation prize). |

| Yes you heard it right. The monster fish of 29lb was caught on the rental skiff from Santa Cruz Boat Rentals. Jim caught this Halibut on a secret lure. It was out by the marker bouy just left of the light house. What a way to spend Fathers day Jim. Great catch!! |

To start the day off here on the wharf, the fishing out here has been great. there has been two Halibuts caught both of legal size one up near the shore line and one behind the store. Also the Mackerel are here, people pulling them up left and right. Some anchovies have been seen but still not as much as there should be. well good luck to all and we will return with info on the boats as they come in.
