Capitola: How can a slow day also be good?

Percentages! We had 5 boats out today, with three fishing seriously. Of those two did “pretty well”, one did “ok”.

The two boats that were not fishing seriously consisted of kids and parents having lots of fun catching and releasing lots and lots of bait fish – sardines and mackerel. One of the dads commented that he was afraid his boy would be a bit spoiled after today cuz pretty much every drop of the hook turned into a fish. We’re guessing it won’t be much of a problem – once you’re hooked, you’re hooked :)

The boat that was fishing seriously that did “ok” got into a bunch of small but edible grass cod.

Cirie here was one of the two “pretty well’s”. He caught this 30 inch flattie off Capitola reef using swim baits, and also caught quite a few grass cod though he only kept the one you see here.
