Capitola: Halibut keep on biting

Bennet just got this one on a live jack mackerel right behind the boats in the handicapped parking section. He was using a halibut rig with a slider.

As Ed was leaving, he saw a bunch of kids having a ball jigging up tons of little mackerel. Can’t say it enough - it’s a great time to bring the kids down for some wharf fishing.

Santa Cruz: There are halibut in the ocean. Your quest: find them.

Kaden went out with his Dad today and wrangled up this nice legal flattie. He was fishing live sardines out in front of the harbor. Lots of other folks were getting similar scores in the same area. Nice catch Kaden!

Santa Cruz: Day 69 for the K man

This was Kurtis’ 69th consecutive day of fishing, and a good day it was. Among the many fish that he caught today were these two beautiful halibuts - one was 22 and one was 24 pounds! He caught them in a place he is not talking about - all we can let you know is that these are out there. We COULD say “it was caught in 35 to 70 feet of water between Soquel Point and the lighthouse”, but whether that actually helps you or just helps your ulcer grow is a question best left to you the reader.

Capitola: Armondo is a flattie charmer!

Number 10 for Armondo today! He caught this one on swim baits fishing just off the wharf close to the beach.

The wharf is still hopping with perch and mackerel and a few sardines. No problem catching if you’re jigging stuff up. Still great fishing for the kids.

Capitola: You can practically walk on the stripers over at New Brighton

Brandon came over from New Brighton this morning to show off his catch - he caught 7.5 and 12 pound stripers right off the bathroom using a red and white pencil popper. He also released SIX nice fish before settling on the last two which you see here. His buddy got six in the same area as well using the same setup. So - New Brighton was definitely the place to be for striper action today - wow.
