Santa Cruz: Day 70 – Big Round Flattie Day

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 79884 * And our main man Kurtis with his personal highliner for the day – a 31 pound halibut. He caught this in the same vague area we described yesterday using live sarines on halibut rigs. We’re becoming concerned for Sheriff Larry – he missed one with the gaff today – just an 8 pounder. Surely he’s due for some braggin rights soon.

Otherwise, there were were lots of radio fish out and about today – mostly halibut, some rock cod, and lingcod.

The ocean was really nice today, but the wind came up pretty strong in front of the harbor around 1:00pm which left Capitola with the remainder of the nice weather for the day.

There was quite a bit of bait in Capitola this morning between the marina and the first kelp bed. Lots of pelican action, and lots of sea lions around. Bait was mostly sardines. One of the rentals did say that he got some nice anchovies off of New Brighton.
