Capitola: Oh yeah, and…
| Justin caught this 11 pounder just on the Capitola side of the boat rental boundary this afternoon. He was fishing live sardines on halibut rigs when this one chomped. Nice catch Justin!
On the wharf today – there were *lots* of people fishing, and *lots* perch and jack mackerel flying out of the water. It started out pretty slow in the morning though some halibut and stripers were *spotted* down close to the beach. As the day progressed, the perch and jack mackerel went nuts and stayed that way for a while. It seems to have slowed down again for now. Point of note: Mike retrieved a rod that got snatched out of the pole holder by a rather large bat ray this afternoon. Also of interest, someone had a thresher shark hooked up very briefly close to the beach around 1pm today. (Shhh – don’t tell the swimmers If tomorrow goes like today did, it is again a great time to bring the kids down here. If you come down with the kids and hook up some fish, please come down and ask us to take a picture so we can put it in the report. It is kind of a bummer not having photos of that today. |

Capitola: Halibut hunting for nicer digs?
| Woah! Phil caught this 33 pounder this afternoon off O’Neil’s using a *rock cod rig* with squid strips! He was the highliner for the rentals today – most other boats came in with a few rock cod. Only three skunk boats however; not bad cuz we had the whole fleet out all day long.
Even those few who got skunked had a fun time today – including the really bizarre “rain shower” that we had today. It wasn’t really a “shower” – it just kinda drizzled – but for this time of year it was a downpour! Weird. Bait was a bit harder to find today, but that actually seemed to make catching a bit easier cuz y’know hungry hungry fish |
