Capitola: JoJo picks a pickled popper

Here’s JoJo with his first striper of the season. He got it on a green pencil popper. He wasn’t sure that it would work cuz he had heard that red and white ones were working better. After a LONG deliberation, he decided to try the green - and that turned out to be a good choice! This one is a 20 incher and he hooked it on his sixth cast off the flume. And guess what: he went back down and caught another one in only 4 casts, and it weighed 18.5 pounds.

Of course, all this went to his head, how could it not - he has fished these waters for countless millenia. So while we *do* have a photo of the larger fish, we are only posting that to the gallery because he looks a little too - well - confident in it. There are other words. But this is a PG site. Won’t go there. Anyway - go the the gallery to see it and his royal majesty.

Capitola: Paying dues can be fun

Sean and his kids went out kind of late today and were having a tough time paying their dues. He had something big on but never got to see it. But again the kids had a blast jigging up bait. He had a stringer full of mackerel that were falling all over the ground and his daughter was helping to put them into the bait tank — we missed the photo though - she was a little tired from all the activity.

Capitola: Stirrings in the deep off Soquel Point

Mike got this 25 inch ling off Soquel point on a live sardine around noon today. He and his buddy also caught some rock cod and at least their fair share of sea lions :(. There was another rental that got another ling - same area, same bait.

Mike got this one off the Capitola reef on the New Brighton side in about 30 feet of water using a live sardine on a halibut rig. Of course Mike was pretty excited - nobody else was catching much of anything up til then this morning. Once again he struck gold.

Capitola: Fishing: 1 Amusement parks: 0

Olivia had a ball with dad and her little brother today. They caught a few dozen jacksmelt, mackerel, and sardines on a bait jig. The kids were pretty ecstatic - they got a fish on the first drop and fished ’til their arms were tired. Her dad said: The kids had more fun fishing than they had for the hundreds of dollars they spent on amusement parks so far this summer.
