Here’s Feng with his 12 pound lingcod. He caught it today fishing a swim bait in the Capitola reef kelp bed. He caught a rock cod on his swim bait, then this ling grabbed on to his rock cod. Like a pit bull, he didn’t wanna let go ’til he was in the net. Nice
It was a pretty good day for lingcod overall. Four of our boats came in with keeper lings (which doesn’t sound so great but it’s “going off” compaired to what the season has been so far). Private boats fishing south rock had non-stop action with short lings biting live sardines on halibut rigs. One private boat fishing up by natural bridges caught two lings, one 10 pound halibut, and two limits of rock cod for three guys.
There was a bit of a south swell today - not quite as much bait around. But - that’s relative: there was a very nice ball of bait in the middle of the marina most of the day. There was not quite as much mackerel and perch action off the wharf, but people were still catching them.
And of course - weather was beautiful. Morning started foggy, opened up quickly and was sunny by 10:30 or so. We saw a lot of happy faces today which made it great for us too. |

Doug caught these two halibut in 55 feet of water using live sardines on halibut rigs. He was fishing off the radio towers just off 26th avenue - right on our rental boundary line. There were eight halibut brought in today in total, all caught in the same area. Josh brought in a 27 pounder! |

Here’s Otto with the 30 inch white seabass he caught today. He was using a white hair raiser fishing the pockets of the kelp bed off Privates. He also had a limit of mixed rock cod - same area. Yummy!!! |

Well, Pauli here set out to prove a point last night and stayed around ’til 4:30 to catch this 18 pounder. He was using a live shiner under a bobber with a 3 foot lead close to the beach. He said at one point last night he saw a pretty big school of big fish, and Ed had something take off on him just about 15 minutes before Pauli caught his, though he didn’t see what did it. |
