Capitola: It is certainly better than yesterday!!

Do not get too excited. Kevin here is very much the exception to the current rule. He caught these using live sardines on halibut rigs off O’Neil’s just on the edge of the kelp. They’re both a bit better than legal - the small one is 26 inches, and the big one is 28. One of our rental boats released a short one in the same area.

Otherwise, out of five boats - well - you’re lookin’ at it. Four skunked boats is what we’re saying here. This is of course not to say the the skunkees didn’t have a good time - by all accounts they did. But - no dinner, which is a bummer. Unless you’re counting sardines, that is - in that case it’s a WORLD OF RICHES.

Bait wise you can practically walk on the water; the water continues to be chock full of bait - mostly sardines.

On the wharf today there were perch, sardines, and pinner anchovies - mostly sardines. One thing we forgot to mention in this morning’s post was that last night someone hooked up on a really nice 30 pound striper on the beach on the west side of the wharf - right next to the rocks. He was using a dead mackerel on a three way setup, and the magic moment occurred around 9:30pm. We have no picture - again - sorry. We need to hire a third shifter or somethin’
