Capitola: Ahhh the dog days of summer

As for the wharf - well - the small / baitfish are still extremely plentiful. There was really a never ending stream of small fish being caught all day long up and down the whole wharf. Robert here took advantage by fishing various spots today. He started in the morning by the fish tank and got some nice live bait. Then he movied on down to the surf line where he played tag with a bunch of stripers. Guess who won? This one here is a nine pounder (our guestimate) - a nice big fish for a visitor from Texas. Congratulations Robert!

Now is just about the best time to be down here - the ocean is alive with life - sea lions, dolphins, pelicans, cormorants, shearwaters, bait like crazy. You can see it all just about as well from the wharf as you can from a boat. If you’ve been putting off a visit - wait no more - it’s great to be here right now.

Capitola: What is this - Bermuda or something?

Sue and Bill were fishing the outside of Adam’s reef using live sardines. Aside from the three nice lings you see here, they also had five decent (keeper) brown rock cod. Unfortunately the rest of the boats didn’t do as well today though Ed didn’t hear anyone complaining.

It was - weather wise - the best day we’ve had in quite a while: the seas were calm, the water clear, the bait and the wildlife plentiful. It’s been sooo nice in fact that we had some late kayakers tonight who couldn’t believe how blessed they were to end up in our neck of the woods this afternoon.

So all that kinda summed up means: it’s really nice here now. Come on down.

Santa Cruz: We need more lighthouses!

So - we have three (3!!) pictures today - a much better day than the last few. First off here are Shay and Kelly with their catch - an olive rock cod, a lingcod, and a nice legal halibut. They are in fact our highliners today - congratulations Shay and Kelly!!

They were fishing the main reef above the lighthouse in their boat (not a rental) using live sardines on halibut rigs. These bit over the span of about three hours, so pretty decent activity. They also had some small rock cod that they released.
