Capitola: It is prime time fishing in Capitola

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87593 * If you look close enough you can probably see people reeling in perch and sardines and if you really zoom in you might see someone with a halibut or striper. It’s been pretty awesome fishing on the wharf here of late, so we have quite a crowd. It’s not combat fishing though – there’s still plenty of room.

One nice thing of note – with all these people fishing, only one pelican got hooked! That’s great – people are paying attention this year and not casting over them and not feeding them. If we keep going this way we’ll have no problem with pesky pelican pier problems this year.

Boat wise, well – we only had 5 boats out, From what Ed saw it looked again like they came in with a few rock cod. Looks like we have quite a few boats reserved for the weekend, so with just a little luck we’ll see some better action out there. By the way – if you wanna get on the water, call and reserve or you’ll likely end up joining the crowd on the wharf (which isn’t so bad but it’s not like being out there).

Speaking of out there – we had some awesome sea life action this morning. We saw a humpback whale lurking around outside the marina maybe a few hundred yards, and there were some big bottlenosed dolphins swimming right through the marina at an impressively high speed. There are of course many many many many sea lions to view as well if you’re into that sort of thing. We’re kinda tired of them ourselves but hey to each his own.

Weather remains nearly tropical – it’s quite nice outside. We do have a bit of smoke in the area from the fire right now, and it kinda smells like Yosemite valley. With a bit of luck the easterly will clear some of it out by midnight or so.

Capitola: Today is double dig on Frank day

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87590 * Another busy day on the wharf!

Here’s Rachel with her halibut. She caught this 24 incher using live sardines under a bobber down by the surf line.

There were many halibut caught off the wharf today, but Ed had to go over the hill to buy some bait jigs, and so we missed a mess of pictures. Frank really should have gone, but he only owns the place.

Capitola: It is not easy being striped

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87587 * Yes, Justin got one yesterday, but this one is bigger! He got this 11 pounder using a plaster slider locking swivel live bait thing down in the surf line.

Sheriff Larry got in on the striper action as well this morning, he dropped a live sardine under a bobber in the same area and caught a nice 9 pounder (it was nice ’til the sea lion took a bite out of it).

There were more, but yep – Ed was over the darned hill doing Frank’s job.

Capitola: Ready, set…..

Larry just stopped into the shop for a moment to resupply and to mention that he just had two bites inside of 10 minutes — and he caught one striper.
