Capitola: Ed feels better – those swim baits were worth the trip

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87825 * Josh and his dad went kayaking today and struck fish taco gold with these two flatties! They were fishing in between the wharf and the kelp bed off of privates using blue and white swim baits. Within an hour they had these two nice ones. Very nice you guys!

Capitola: Flatties dominate the day

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87822 * Here’s Dave with his very first halibut ever! Woot. Dave went out with his buddy Jim on Jim’s boat and scored some rock cod and a ling which they released. Fishing back towards Capitola, Dave hooked up on this one with a live sardine. They were on Capitola reef between two kelp lines. Congratulations Dave – nice catch!

Capitola: Faithful reader gets just rewards

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87819 * Tom is the highliner on the rentals today! He caught this 27 inch flattie on a live sardine right next to the large yacht anchored outside the south east side of the marina. Funny story there: the guy who owns the huge yacht asked Ed what good places there were around here to spear fish for halibut. Right at that particular moment Tom here – within 100 feet of said yacht – hooked up on this one. Maybe more irony than “funny” – but you get the point.

Capitola: Scooting his way to fame

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 87816 * Once again Scooter scores a nice flattie on the wharf. He caught this one about 2:30 this afternoon using live sardines on a sliding rig – once again in the surf line. There have been three other halibut caught on the wharf today – two on bobbers, one on a sliding setup. That, and someone farmed a real nice one down in the surf (darn).

Bait is still around the wharf though it started a bit later today (about 8:00am). Up til that time the sardines were a bit small or just not there. It seems like they’ve moved back to just outside the marina again. We have a few in the tank now – not many but we’re working on it.
