Capitola: Yes, there is something on the lens – we are working the issue

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 88047 * Steele, Mike, and Luca here are the other boat highliners – again a couple limits of browns off of the Spongebob area. They were using the same darn thing. Way to go guys.

Most of the other rentals today had catches similar to yesterdays – a couple of rock fish per boat. For most people though, that was enough – it was a beautiful day to be on the water (as it has been for several days now).

Oddly enough, the only halibut action we saw today was the catch off the kayak earlier today, and one on a little rubber raft fishing just on the outside of the swim buoy. That was Sambo – he was using live sardines on a halibut rig and was very much alone in that area. He said he lost in the second row of the marina close to the kelp. They felt like nice fish but both popped off after a short run.

Kurtis ran up to the outer limits of our Santa Cruz rental boundary and returned with just one small flattie – so at least for him the whole “huge halibut up there” thing hasn’t happened (yet). He said he had a couple of big fish on that got away however so here’s to hopin’

Bait wise here in Capitola today, there was still quite a bit of bait out in the marina. It consisted of primarily sardines with some mackerel and jacksmelt mixed in. As we mentioned earlier today, there were anchovies near the wharf this morning (they were on the small side for the most part) – they appear to have moved to the outside of the marina – we have our fingers crossed that they’ll mosey on back in here.

A striper was caught around 1:30 – we missed the photo op. It was a 10 pounder and he caught it with a live sardine. We have high hopes that the bite will continue into this evening.

Capitola: Spongebob lights the way – without a light

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 88044 * Ok so once again Spongebob was the most productive area today. Kent, Jaron, and Steve here were kinda tied for highliner position today with a mess of brown rock cod. They were of course fishing the Spongebob area using rock cod jigs with strips of squid. Very nice catch.

Capitola: Ed is everywhere at all times

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 88041 * Here’s Patrick – he caught this one off the wharf toward the end on the west side. He was using a frozen anchovy on a surf leader setup. There was a lucky happenstance involved – Ed was out trying to dissuade a pelican from going for the bait on the hooks when Patrick hooked up on this, so Ed just motored over and helped land it. Nice fish Patrick – congratulations!

Capitola: Fish biting on psychedelics

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 88038 * Jim hooked up on this 24 inch halibut right off the first kelp bed off the end of the wharf this morning. He was using a shrimp fly rig but on the upper hook he had a white split tail scampi laced with a little strip of squid. The latter is what the halibut bit on. Cool beans Jim!

Capitola: A promising start to the day (and ANCHOVIES!!!)

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 88029 * Here’s Chi with the first halibut off the wharf today – a 26 incher. He caught it on a live sardine on a three way setup. Looks like another beautiful morning with tons of potential. Lots of small **ANCHOVIES** and sardines around the wharf. The anchovies seem to be staying in closer – on the inside of the gate toward the shore.
