Capitola: Lonely halibut chooses one shiny moment in sun

posted at 7:15 PM in Fishing Reports |
Here’s Ngyun with a 26 inch halibut that he caught off the wharf using a live sardine at the surf line. He’s our highliner today - congratulations Ngyun!

As predicted, sardines did come around the wharf today. They were not as plentiful as they were last week, but people were still catching them - mostly one or two at a time. Most fish were coming from the end of the wharf to the gate (which they continue to do at this moment).

On the ocean, Darn Glenn lit it up with 4 rock cod - 2 blacks and 2 browns. He was targeting halibut but having a hard time of it. Several boats hooked up on bat rays - Ed saw one of those taken.

Again though the real bright spot was the seiner catch. They’ve consistently (and increasingly) outshown local sport and commercial catches in a truly spectacular way since they resumed fishing around here.
