Capitola: Ed is now attempting to claim humility. Riiiiight
* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 92266 * | Jerrod was fishing in his kayak off O’Neils (well inside the Capitola rental boundary for those who might be puzzling over this sort of thing) and had a Myron the Mariner-like stampede of fish onto his hooks. In that area, he caught a 28 inch lingcod, a real nice grass cod, and a 26 inch flattie!! All of these bit on live sardines which he caught in the marina, and all the sardines that got bitten were sitting on a halibut rig. Congratulation Jarrod!
This is the only picture we got today. Ed claims, ONCE AGAIN, that he was tooooo busy pulling up boats to pusha de button. ‘Yeah well, when they only have one or two or a few small fish, I’m not gonna stop for a photo when I have 8 boats and three privates all coming at me at the same time, not to mention kayaks, and shore boat rides”. Sure Ed. Whatever. So obviously the rental boat catch today was nothing really stellar, but then again we saw very few skunked boats (possibly none (woot)) and all the catches were roughly the same variety – a few browns, lots of sardines, jacksmelt, mackerel, two halibut about the same size as Jarrod’s. Most of the action happened around the edges of the kelp beds and Soquel point. Still a lot of sardines to be had off the wharf. Someone lost a nice striper down close to the beach this morning – we’re hoping for an evening bite. Ed claims he’s all looking forward to catching some pictures. Un Hunh. We saw no perch or halibut off the wharf today – if it stays like this it’s gonna be a volume catch kinda thing for the derby on Monday. |
