Santa Cruz: Ed lays bet on blindfolded bullseye

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 96961 * Ryan and Chris took their boat up to Natural Bridges to see if they could find one of those big northern flatties Bayside has been talking about. No monsters, but they are happy with this legal one. They said this 26 incher put up a respectable bite after it munched on their live sardine.

Otherwise, it was a slow day for both rentals and fishing off of them. We saw a few rock cod, once again off Capitola reef. Out of seven boats out, three came back skunked. There’s still a decent dolphin show going on however, so at least there’s entertainment.

We know there are some scattered schools of white seabass somewhere in the 35 miles between Davenport and Monterey, so Ed is about to throw darts at a map to plan his fishing for tomorrow. Aside from some big flatties off of Davenport, that’s about all we’ve heard of lately.

Capitola: It is a floating salad out there!

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 96958 * A.J. caught this leopard shark a bit later in the day a bit closer to the beach using a live sardine.

Bait finally did come in late this afternoon. People where having a hard time catching them as they were kind of scattered and there was a lot of loose kelp floating around the wharf. The majority of the bait hung around just outside the marina most of the day.

Two small (undersized) halibut were caught and released close to the beach this afternoon. Other than the two sharks, that’s it (though there’s always the possibility of an evening bite).

Capitola: A quick photo before returning to the pond

* WPG2 CANNOT LOCATE GALLERY2 ITEM ID 96955 * This is Ryan with a leopard shark he caught off the end of the wharf today using a halibut rig with whole dead squid. This one bit around 9:00 am. There’s one more…
