Capitola: All great things begin with a single step

Johnny and first fish ever
Here’s Johnny with his first fish ever! He caught this walleye by the fish tank on the wharf using a sabiki rig with shrimp bits. Congratulations Johnny!

Elsewhere on the wharf, a couple of visitors from Portugal caught their limit of perch – a nice assortment – fishing a similar rig in the same area.

Not many people fishing on the wharf today due to the weather and we’re really still waiting for wharf fishing to pop. We’ve seen pelicans diving in and around the wharf which means there’s likely some kind of bait around but we haven’t seen it come up on any rigs yet. Should be soon – probably once the weather settles down, which…… (!)

This weekend is forecast to be very very nice weather wise, so if you haven’t yet reserved a boat for the rock fish opener, you really should! We still have four boats available on Saturday and eight available Sunday. These will not last!! Be sure to call soon – otherwise you’ll have to hope we have a no show.

Capitola: Ed turns free time into fish

Ed and salmon
It’s Ed’s day off today and he decided to get into this whole salmon fishing thing – it worked out well! Here he is with his catch for today – a 12 pounder. He was fishing on the west side of the hole inside the fleet and caught it in 296 feet of water 150 feet down on the wire using purple haze kajiki behind a Abe and Al flasher. It was nice – a bit foggy in the morning then cleared for 1/2 hour before the winds came up. Ed is pretty jazzed that he didn’t get skunked on his first try. Congratulations Ed!
