Capitola: There is no direction left to go but up!

Colleen and Josh and rock fish
The weather was *beautiful* on the water today. So beautiful in fact that the fish, for the most part, took a vacation along with the rest of us and for the most part wouldn’t bite on a darned thing all day.

There were exceptions – Kurtis caught four nice flatties outside the harbor, of course DD in the previous post, there was one boat we had out that came in with three limits of rock cod that we didn’t get a picture of or anything cuz we were way too busy, and there’s Colleen and Josh here.

Colleen and Josh here left late today – between 11:30 and 12:00 – and fished last year’s Sponge Bob area ’til 4:30 or so — and they actually managed to collect a nice little batch of rock fish there. They were using frozen squid bits on shrimp fly rigs. A very nice catch given today’s status quo.

The day started really promisingly – there were a bunch of sardines just outside the marina here that Kurtis started jigging up – he ended up with 60 nice live bait in a half our. Those fish never came into the wharf, and spread out not to be seen again en masse for the rest of the day.

We wish we could elaborate better on the wharf situation today, but Ed was so busy that he didn’t really have time to pay attention (that, and he probably actually forgot a bunch of stuff). If one of you kind readers who was fishing the wharf today has a sum up for us, please by all means post a comment so others can read up on it.

Capitola: Ed meets new people every single day – even ones he has known for years

Unknown and halibut
Poor Ed. He is not even taking statin drugs for his cholesterol and he *already* is having major “senior moments”. This particular one is quite embarassing because it’s gonna be all public and stuff. To wit:

Here’s “Dan Doe” – “DD” has fished off the wharf quite a bit over the last two years, and is quite a familliar sight. Except for that awkward part where you say “Hi!” and then inside it’s all.oh darn! I forgot!!! – uh awkward pause………………

DD caught this 11 pound halibut flylining a sardine off his kayak down by New Brighton beach. It bit on a live sardine which he jigged up we’re-not-sure-where.

If you exclude Kurtis’ commercial catch of halibut, DD here is our highliner today. More on that in the next post.
