Capitola: It is like a little slice of winter – right in the middle of summer

By this we mean: it is not really warm, it is completely overcast, there was what could arguably be called “drizzle” here this morning, and we have a swell from the southwest. Ugh.

We had five rentals out today. Three got skunked, one brought in five kingfish and one brought in two rock cod. Definitely nothing to write home about.

In fact the only thing we’ve seen that actually is worth writing home about is the 12 pound halibut that camera shy Dan caught today.

Bait is around and jiggable, but it is scattered so you have to work for it. The swell appears to have peaked last night and should be winding down as the weather warms up over the next couple days, so we’ll likely see a return to something more normal in short order.
