Capitola: Fame is sometimes its own lure
Dad took Julio and Drue out for a little fun on the water today, and they had a blast with these feisty jacksmelt hopping onto their bait jigs. When Ed asked if we could exploit their joy in the form of a web post, the rush of wind that was felt as they positioned for this shot was deafening.
We should also mention that kids on our three sightseeing boats today were extremely excited about the sea lions, otters, and dolphins that they got to see today – the water was quite lively with mammals. Just now our little spot of winter appears to be moving on. YAY!!! The gray was getting old. Let’s hope this sticks around for a while. |

Capitola: Stripers in the surfline!
Carlson and Kyle were fishing on the wharf with Dad today and re-lit the striper action on the wharf! They caught some live shiners and put them under a bobber, threw it out, and voila! Good job boys – enjoy your dinner! |

Capitola: These guys are persistent like a fine glue
Danny and Damian were our highliners today off the rental boats. They came in with a nice assortment that included such tasty treats as grass and black and yellow rock cod, a lingcod, and a halibut. NICE DAY! They were fishing the Sponge Bob area using live sardines on halibut rigs and these fish bit throughout the day. Their secret was persistence – they worked the Sponge Bob area all day from 7 am ’til 4 pm. You guys are definitely an inspiration!
We had quite a few boats out for a Wednesday – 12 which included three sightseers. Of the nine that went fishing only one was skunked and he only fished for 45 minutes. The other not Danny and Damian boats had one to two browns per boat. Bait was outside the marina once again this morning. At one point it looked extremely thick though no boats worked it ’til about 7:00am (which is when it started spreading out). Danny and Damian said they had no problem catching bait. |
