Capitola: Tyrus is the fish whisperer

Tyrus and halibut
Once again Tyrus catches the fish while his buddies watch. He caught this 27 incher off Capitola reef using live sardines on a halibut rig. They said they had six other good hits but didn’t boat any of them.

We only had four boats out today, three of them fishing. One boat had a skunk problem, the others caught a few small rock cod. The stenographer and Myron the Mariner had some decent luck fishing between the mile buoy and Capitola reef. They each caught a nice lingcod, and the stenographer caught three large browns – all within two hours.

Bait was easy for some, difficult for others. There were dense balls just inside and outside the marina, though they were moving around quickly. About a half hour ago we saw some guys jigging up sardines off the wharf, so they’ve moved in since then. Anna noted that last night between 8:30 and 9:00pm folks were catching sardines all up and down the length of the wharf – hopefully we’ll have a repeat.
