Santa Cruz: We told him to go away… and away he goes, Precious! Gone, gone, gone! Smeagol is free!

Kurtis and Tim and vermillion and halibut and lingcod
We think Kurtis may just have fended off the bad luck he ran into yesterday. He and Tim went commercial fishing up around Davenport today and scored unbelievably. What they’re holding here is a six pound vermillion, two 21 pound halibut, and a 14 pound lingcod. !!! — !!!!!

And – get this – this is actually just a small part of their catch! Unfortunately all this catch is already sold, but hopefully they’ll do a repeat performance tomorrow.

Awesome catch you guys – just awesome!

The outer reefs are serving up some really quality size vermilion. 5-6lbers and bigger very common. Were finding fish in the 100ft range and nearly everything that does find its way down to the bottom first is finding a willing customer with lots of spines and big mouths. Really unique variety of rock fish.

The Pro-Cure ultra glow bait system is heaven sent for getting into these bigger cods. The ultra glow sticks to squid, small octopus, plastics, fish traps and your fingers so you may want to wear a applicator glove when making up a batch of bait. Glow in the dark reel seats and reel buts look kinda funky if you get this stuff on your rod but as far as rock fishing goes, the deeper water rock fish respond very well. Hits within seconds of hitting bottom
