Capitola: We just call him Schmeeegle

Kurtis and halibut
Kurtis was fishing up off Soquel point today and pretty much highlined everyone who left out of Capitola with his considerable commercial catch. The largest two of the six halibut he brought back were 16 and 27.5 pounds. He was using dead squid on halibut rigs and said the bite didn’t really start ’til it got very breezy though he caught three between 6:00 and 7:00 am.

One of our rentals who didn’t want a photo actually won the highliner of the day prize (our congratulations) with a 7 pound flattie. They caught it using a live sardine on a halibut rig off Capitola reef between the two kelp beds off Bomborra. We had a total of seven boats out today with no skunks – everyone had something.

One of the rentals remarked that sardines were plentiful this morning and easy to catch. Late this afternoon folks were catching sardines off the wharf. Rumor has it that the last few nights have produced stripers late in the evening. We have photographs of these however so we’ll call them rumors for now.

Capitola: Do not adjust your sets

Ryan and rock cod
Ryan and Bob were pushing the limit of the whistle buoy boundary today and got into some rock cod. They brought back a couple of really nice china cod, a rosy cod, and a copper and a brown. They were using squid bits on rock cod rigs.

Michael and Dung were fishing off Soquel point today and raked in two limits of rock cod, a 10 pound ling, and a slew sardines and jacksmelt. That sure is a lot of catching!
