Capitola: Speaking of finding the sweet spot…

Pat, Pat, Alex, and big halibut
Pat, Pat, and Alex went on a mission today in a rental and fished over by the Santa Cruz number 3 buoy. Some time between 8 and 8:30 this proved to be an excellent choice, as Pat (the middle one) hooked into this at-least-14-pound flattie! It bit on freshly dead mackerel on a halibut rig. There’s a line of thought that says this is some more evidence that the big ones are moving farther into the bay right now. Kewl.

Capitola: Finding the sweet spot – a lesson

Chris, Lisa, Brian, Omeed, and brown rock fish
Chris, Lisa, Brian, and Omeed wanted to be sure we got a shot of their catch today – they needn’t have worried as this fine new-red-buoy catch is the sort of thing we live for around here. They caught these four nice browns between 10 and 11 this morning drifting around the red buoy. They were using dead squid and live sardines.

That buoy has been a temperamental spot lately; sometimes it produces meals like these and other times it is less inspiring. Looks a lot like persistence is the key here as always.

Nice catch you guys!
