After a short hiatus due to some website issues, the fishing report is up and running again!
In the past few days we’ve had some salmon come in that were caught in the range of the rental boats, as well as ling cod and rock cod. We also saw a couple schoolie stripers caught off the wharf.
Today it has been slow, but all our boats brought in rock cod and ling cod. Lots of mackerel and sardines out there too. And lots of whales!
… and it’s all SPAM.
Well, maybe it’s been a couple handfuls of months, but still – they’re *relentless*!! Anyway…
Stenographer here – just stopping by to do a little housekeeping:
I deleted a gigantic number of spam comments today and updated the filter, so I’m hoping things remain more sane for a while. I tried to be very careful to not nuke any legit comments, but it’s possible that I goofed on a few. I deleted something on the order of 500 spams. If I got one of yours, I apologize.
I’ll try to keep an eye on it for a bit to see if it’s gotten better.
Hope you all have another great season on the water. I sure miss the wharf!
Capitola Boat and Bait will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, October 11 due to Monte Foundation Fireworks. Santa Cruz Boat Rental will be open for business as usual!
We just completed a move of the web site to a new much more capable server.
The upgrade included a software update and and some minor enhancements. Most significant of the enhancements is spam protection.
Basically the post comments had become property of the blog spammers and we couldn’t see the forest for the trees (there was a *lot* of spam in the comments database). So we deleted all the spam and enabled some new stuff to keep the spammers out.
The spam blocking is so good, in fact, that we’re going to see if we can just turn off comment moderation altogether. That may not last, but we’ll see.
Point being: if you’re one of those who’s inclined to post comments but hasn’t been because it’s been busted here, please give it another try. It’d be nice if we could sort of re-claim the discussion here.

|Hear me roar!|
Hope everyone is having a great start to their holiday weekend! We’ve been getting quite a few calls asking if we are open tomorrow and Labor Day and the answer is YES! Both our stores (Capitola Boat & Bait and Santa Cruz Boat Rentals) are open for business and we will be renting boats as long as the weather cooperates–which it looks like it is going to! (See our earlier post.)
We’re in the process of updating the boat bucks…check back for the newest version soon!
In the meantime, bring in a printout of this post for $10 off a full day boat rental. (Mon-Thurs only, Holidays and Openers excluded.)
Um, uh, um, sorry – the boat bucks I posted yesterday had the wrong wording. Â I’ve taken them offline and will fix later today. Â They *should* have said “valid monday through thursday” – my bad.
The Santa Cruz Boat Rentals hoist has been fixed! You can now make skiff reservations at either store. Come down rent a boat this weekend at Santa Cruz or Capitola!
Sadly, the hoist at Santa Cruz Boat Rentals currently is not functioning and will not be able to launch boats until further notice. We’re working on getting it fixed. But don’t worry, Capitola Boat and Bait is still up and running for rentals! Call and make a reservation for this weekend!
