Mark your calendars!
This coming Monday September 6th (Labor Day) is to fishing as the Fourth of July is to explosions:
First, it’s a DF&G “Free Fishing Day” – anyone can fish from a boat all day without a fishing license!
Second, it’s time once again for the Begonia Festival fishing derby!
The derby begins at 6:00am and the final tally is at 11:00am.
Park early – this is a really popular (and fun!) event.

Whoops
We’re having a bit of a rough patch on the web server here (disk space issues). I’m going to clear up some space (I hope) – expect some bumps for the next hour or so.

Downtime…
We had a bit of down time last night – looks like our server’s host was playing with electricity last night. We should be back to normal now.
Except that “normal” has of late included an occasional glitch where the server becomes unresponsive.  I’m aware of it and am tracking it down. These “intermittent” things can be a real challenge to find though, so don’t hold your breath.

Beware the upgrade
Fixed the missing widgets; I upgraded a component the other day and it appears that the act of upgrading wiped out some configuration. Classy. Anyway that’s where the weather sensor widget and others went. Fixed.

Updated fishing licensing page
We’re no longer selling fishing licenses directly at our stores, so we’ve updated the licensing page to reflect that. The short version is: you’re best off if you take care of your licensing needs before you get here.

HAPPY NEW BOAT BUCKS!!
Here they are folks, hot off the presses! Aside from the usual cosmetic changes, we’ve made the bucks good for the entire year. We’re continuing with the “two kinds of bucks” theme, but again: it does not matter which version of boat bucks you bring with you – both kinds are good at either store.

Capitola: Salmon Gear – 30% Off!!
| Our fearless leader lost his marbles yesterday and proclaimed that “The Salmon Gear Must Go!” – so now’s your chance folks! If the rumors are correct (and oh man are we crossing our fingers) you’ll be needing some of this stuff next year.
The rack of stuff you see in the photo here is at the Capitola store – come on down and get yours. Who knows when Frank will get back on the meds – hurry! |

A Journey of a Thousand Miles…
…begins with a single step.
In this case that step consists of adding all the photos that weren’t included in the backup being once again indexed in the gallery (yay). They are however indexed with new gallery id numbers, so the three hundred and seven files-to-be-properly-indexed issue remains. If you look carefully though, you should find your summer+fall photos in the gallery now.
The next part will *definitely* take “a while”.
[edit]
Also of note: the post automation software that we’d been using to date has been adversely affected by the upgrade; for the moment you’ll find that posts-with-pictures in the way you’re used to seeing them will be a bit sparse. This should be somewhat ameliorated by the fact that it’s winter and there aren’t a lot of folks out fishing for anything anyway, but – just so y’know.

Stenographer considers change of career
The stenographer has conceded that a flogging is too good for him.
Obviously the problems stemming from the hard disk crash weren’t as easy to fix as they initially appeared. The jist of it is that the gallery side of the backup was a complete mess and 2/3rds useless. We got back all the gallery numbering up to the end of last June – all the numbering past that is gone. We do have the photos – I’ll be injecting those back into their galleries as time permits. But as we lost the numbering, we can only associate those pictures with fishing report entries on an item-by-item basis. It will take a lot of time. The stenographer extends his most humble apologies. Repairs will progress at a faster pace now that the gallery issues are under control.
[edit] For the record, there we lost 307 gallery entries starting on 6/21/2009 – sigh.
