While the Stenographer is away, our computer goes down. Oh darn!

Ed and Steph here again with the daily fishing report!

Basically, we have a really hard time without our Stenographer. It’s barely been 24 hours since his departure and we are already counting the minutes until he gets back! (About 8,640 mins or so…)

So today was just not our day with anything electronic. First our bait pump went out and then our main computer. Major bummer. So sorry guys, no pictures with this post. We’re working on a solution to this problem and hoping that we don’t encounter anything else like this while the Stenographer’s away! The Stenographer is working on troubleshooting our issues while he’s gone though, (he’s just too good to us,) so we’re hoping to get photos back up and running within the next few days…

Now, the fishing report:

We have a picture of Nico and his brother Kevin…but you’ll just have to visualize it: Nico and Kevin smiling wide with 6 Walleye Perch, a Pampano perch and a Jacksmelt. They caught them on the wharf using wharf set-ups next to the cleaning table. (We’ll post the pic when we are able to.)

We had quite a few rentals out today, a couple sight-seeing, a few fishing. Of those out fishing we only saw Rock Cod. В A private boat came in with 24in Ling Cod….and that was about it.

While the Stenographer is away, the mice will play…

Emily and Shovel Nose Skate

\” While the Stenographer’s away, the mice will play…this isn’t going to be a very good post. We miss the stenographer.\” -Ed 08\22\10

As you can see we have no Stenographer at the moment. He’s off on some mid-west adventure for the next week. So filling in for his absence will be Ed and Steph, please bear with us, we are not nearly as creative as our beloved Stenographer.

We had all of the boats out today, but other than some rockfish it turned out to be a pretty slow day for most, unless your target was Kingfish. We did have a kayaker bring in a just legal Halibut, but of course we were too busy to snap a picture. Butters claims to have seen a Vermillon today, however no one else seems able to confirm that sighting… There was some bait out in the marina early this morning, but it was difficult to jig up.

Emily was our highliner today with this shovel nose skate. This was actually one of four skates caught off the pier today. There were also a number of Perch and Kingfish; no sardines today, although yesterday we saw them in the late evening.

And that about sums it up.

Capitola: Darn Glenn actually does not like halibut fishing at all

Darn Glenn and halibut
Too boring!

Except when you catch one, which in fact happened for him today. He caught this 12 pounder off Soquel point using a live sardine on a halibut rig. He was out fishing with his boy Josh in about 50 feet of water – this fish bit about 9:00 this morning.

They were going to go hunt down some salmon, but they ran into what everyone else ran into today: it got gustay!! That did not stop the action though.

We had all our boats out today (yay) with only one sightseeing. Of those who were fishing, we saw somewhere in the neighborhood of five skunks. Of the catchers, Aside from Glenn we saw one boat come in with a legal lingcod, and the rest had one or two rock cod of various sizes.

The wharf saw one skate come up on the end, some some perch and kingfish. ZzzzZZzzz

Most people had trouble rounding up some bait today. Fish finders showed plenty of kingfish about, and those have been pretty effective with the halibut. So for the moment they’re really your best bet bait wise.

Capitola: Locals locals everywhere!

Jim and Salmon
We have a whopping TWO pictures today! He almost does not need an excuse, but in case you’re in need,

“We were busy!” – Ed 8/21/2010

Jim hit the water early – 5:30am dark cold are you insane early. It paid off however – he caught these two fish by 8:00am and from what we’ve been able to gather he might well have highlined the fleet today. Which is to say: the radio was mighty quiet.

He was fishing around the MO buoy – initially shallow and later deep. The first fish bit before light 80 feet down. After the sun started peeking out the fish went down to 200 feet. These fish are 9 and 11 pounds respectively.

Nice catch Jim!
