Licensing

  • Believe it or not, you may not need a fishing license:
  • If you fish from the either of the two wharves, you do not need a fishing license thanks to Public Trust Doctrine traditions public wharves have evolved with.
  • However, if you step on the beach or into a boat, you must have a fishing license. One-day licenses are available at both our shops. The price for a one day license is $13.40. It allows you to fish in both salt and fresh water environments. Fishing licenses can be purchased at both the Santa Cruz and Capitola stores, but it is best to call ahead - sometimes we run out.
  • NOTE!! This season we will have a computer terminal set up at the Capitola shop (not sure about Santa Cruz yet) which you will be able to use to purchase fishing licenses from the Department of Fish and Game’s new online fishing license system. This new system guarantees that we’ll never run out of licenses so long as you bring a credit or debit card with you, and that you can purchase whichever sort of license you wish:
